Features of Batting Cage Nets

Batting cages are a great time saver and allow for players to get more cuts in. They are efficient for practice time compared to on-field practice because players get increased reps. They also save a lot of space compared to using an entire field for batting practice. For example, 25 players can rotate through a batting cage and get their batting practice in a fraction of the time it would take if they were using an entire field for batting practice.

Batting cage nets allow players to improve their performance without having to worry about accidentally hitting other people on the field, damaging equipment or losing balls.

Selecting batting cage net

Netting on batting cages is usually constructed of polyethylene or nylon. Nylon netting is more expensive but is the stronger of the two materials.

When selecting a net, ensure that you take note of the twine size. A number such as #21,#36, #42 or #60 indicates the size of the twine with a higher number indicating a thick twine. The twine has a direct effect on the durability of the netting.  Commercial batting cages for example typically use a minimum of #36.. Typical is #21 for backyard and youth leagues and some high school; #36 for high schools and collegiate.

To maximize the life of your batting cage net, be sure to take it down and store it indoors during the offseason. This will prolong the life of the net. Leaving out in the weather year round can decrease the life of the net.
