Advantages of Hitting in a Batting Cage


Having a live pitcher who can simulate game conditions may be many athletes’ and coaches’ preferred way to train. Don’t underestimate the advantages of practicing in a batting cage to increase your skills fast. For example:

 

  1. Repetition: We all know that quality repetition is the key to developing the hand-eye coordination needed to improve. Gathering up baseballs in a batting cage is much more time efficient than gathering balls when hitting on the field which translates to getting more swings.
  2. Improving Mechanics: Repetition is only good if you are practicing the right mechanics.  Hitting ball after ball with bad mechanics has the opposite outcome than desired. Time in the batting cage can be used to do drills to emphasize the correct technique needed to become a better hitter. 
  3. Practice Hitting Pitches to All Fields: Work on how to handle different pitches and locations.  Let the ball travel and hit the opposite way.  Hit it back up the middle and pull the inside pitch.  Work on off-speed pitches as well as fastballs.
