Keep Up Your Field’s Appeal – How to Buy a Baseball Windscreen

Baseball windscreens are designed for outdoor sporting fields, batting cages and even as a privacy screen for use in a large backyard. They come in a variety of styles and can be suitably customized so that you have more than just a screen; you have a great opportunity for branding. If you are in the market for a screen to dress up and enclose your baseball field, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind during your shopping.

Tips for Buying the Right Baseball Windscreen

Buying a screen does come with a significant upfront price, so you want to make sure you get the most out of your field’s investment. Just a few things to keep in mind while purchasing your windscreen include:

  • Installation – It is imperative that you have a baseball windscreen installed safely, and the best way to do that is to see that there are grommets spaced at specific intervals. It is very important to use tie wraps, clips, hog rings, etc. at each grommet hole to ensure your windscreen is installed properly.
  • Warranty – This is very important. You should never buy field equipment without a manufacturer’s warranty on any defects. Look for a minimum two-year warranty, but ideally aim for a five-year warranty for maximum protection. Our vinyl-coated polyester, closed mesh polyethylene, privacy screen, and open mesh polyethylene all come with a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty, but it does not protect from incorrect installation of the windscreen.  The ArmorMesh windscreen comes with a 5-year limited manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects, but again, without proper installation, the warranty is not in effect.
  • Material – Not all windscreens are made alike. The material will ultimately determine the functionality and durability of your field’s screen. The two most popular types of materials include woven polypropylene and vinyl-coated mesh. Polypropylene is typically only available in the standard green or back, while vinyl-coated mesh comes in more color choices. Polypropylene is ideal for UV light exposure and high winds, while vinyl-coated mesh is often better suited for branding.
  • Branding and Printing Options – When you order a windscreen, you should look at it as an opportunity to brand your field, promote your sponsors and advertise your business. These windscreens can have letters or logos added to them. For schools, a mascot or name of the institution could be printed on the screen. If you are looking to raise money for your field, ask vendors for donations to purchase windscreens and then offer them the opportunity to have their name printed on the screen itself.

Most importantly, remember that your windscreen must be slightly shorter than the actual fence height for proper installation. By taking the time to pick out the perfect screen, you can boost your field’s appeal and even increase sponsorship opportunities – a win-win for any baseball organization.
